Main purpose of job

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is responsible for promoting UK trade and investment with the rest of the world.

We are the department for economic growth.

We support businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the UK.

DBT divides the world into 9 regions, each led by His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner.

LATAC is a rich region full of business opportunities that support the growth agenda of the UK government.

This is a high-impact role at the core of DBT’s operations in Latin America and the Caribbean, suited to a candidate with strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of economics, and proven experience in managing and interpreting complex data.

You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, regularly engaging with senior stakeholders across 11 LATAC countries, the UK, and other global regions.

Your insights will directly inform strategic decisions and demonstrate the impact of our work.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead on data-driven initiatives, provide expert advice, and support senior management with robust evidence and performance analysis—going beyond operational support to shape regional outcomes.

This is a regional role and location will depend on the successful candidate.

Roles and responsibilities

Performance Management:

  • Strategically oversee performance across DBT LATAC ensuring alignment with the Trade, Industrial and Investment Strategy.

  • Set and manage regional and campaigns KPIs, balancing ambition with deliverability.

    This requires analytical judgement and the ability to synthesize complex data from diverse sources.
  • Design and deliver monthly impact reports and ad-hoc performance analyses, engaging senior stakeholders to inform decision- making and drive performance improvements.
  • Identify emerging performance risks through horizon scanning and collaborate with senior leadership (COO and DTC) to develop and implement corrective strategies.

  • Lead performance discussion at Quarterly Operations Forums, providing challenge and insight to market and campaigns leads.

  • Represent LATAC in performance reviews with DBT HQ, defending regional performance with evidence-based analysis and strategic insight.

  • Manage all UK- commissioned data/performance projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with departmental priorities.


  • Special Projects:

  • Lead cross-regional strategic projects, including support to the International Market Team, bespoke research for the Director of Market Access, and commissions from DBT HQ.

  • Oversee access and usage of centrally funded data platforms and market intelligence tools, ensuring value for money and strategic application.

  • Organizational Data:

  • Work with the COO to develop and refine data systems and processes, supporting improved decision making and operational efficiency across LATAC.
  • Act as a regional lead for management information tools, (e.g. Data Hub Digital Workspace, DBT LATAC Dashboard) training colleagues, promoting best practices and resolving queries.

  • Liaise with global DBT teams and HQ, ensuring LATAC’s data practices are consistent and aligned with departmental standards.

  • Economic Analysis:

  • Monitor and interpret macroeconomic and trade data relevant to LATAC and UK trade relations, providing strategic insights to inform policy and operations.

  • Lead quarterly data calls with Regional Directors and Campaigns Leads ensuring consistency and accuracy in reporting.

  • Support regional colleagues in accessing and analysing economic data, promoting alignment with HQ policy and responding to ad hoc analytical requests.

  • Language requirements: 

    Language: English, Spanish

    Level of language required: Fluent written and spoken (CEFR C1 essential; C2 in at least one language preferable) 

    Essential qualifications, skills and experience

    Essential on arrival: 

  • At least two years experience of working with data.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics or other numerate subject, including technology-related degrees.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, in particular knowing how to transform complex data sets into useful dashboards.
  • Bilingual professional proficiency in English and in Spanish
  • Advanced knowledge of international trade data and use of public trade data sets.
  • Committed team player with ability to self-motivate, resilience, and autonomy.
  • Excellent research and report-writing skills in English.
  • Ability to innovate, solve problems, prioritise, organise and manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience using data/market research platforms.

  • Experience of using CRM platforms.

  • Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

    Desirable:

  • At least one year work experience in a trade and/or investment promotion organisation.

  • Experience of analysing trade performance data.
  • Understanding of trade promotion, investment, and market access work.

  • Proficiency with using ERP and data visualisation platforms, such as SAP and Tableau, respectively.

    External applicants and non-DBT internal applicants must have the legal status to live and work in Peru.

    Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’.

    If during the reserve period of 12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
